New rule for Motocross machines
A new rule has been created by Motorcycling Australia relating to 150cc four stroke Motocross machines that will come into effect from 1 January 2007.

The rule essentially enables 150cc four stroke machines to be eligible to compete with 85cc two stroke machines.

The new rule is as follows:

150cc Four Stroke Motocross Machines

Effective immediately the 150cc four stroke machines can compete in all competition with 85cc two stroke machines in the appropriate age groups and wheel sizes.

The 150cc machines must be specifically built as Motocross machines and not be trail/farm machines.

The use of these machines to be monitored and reports tabled by the Stewards of each race meeting, to the relevant RCB as soon as practicable after the meeting.

The participation of 150cc four stroke machines competing with 85cc two stroke machines will be evaluated by 31 December 2006.

The only machines that currently meet these criteria are the Honda CRF150R (small wheel) and the Honda CRF150RB (big wheel) models.

The Board of MA will consider approving other Motocross machines for this class as they become available, and the use of these machines will be continuously monitored to be re-evaluated at the end of 2006.

The final rule for this category of Motocross machines will then be printed in the 2007 Manual of Motorcycle Sport.
